Welsh entrepreneur Peter Saunders has become the first Welshman to be awarded with the prestigious UK Business Angel of the Year Award by the British Business Angel Association.

Mr Saunders, who established and developed the Tywyn based company Halo-Foods Group into a multi-million pound turnover business before selling in 2004; a business venture that benefited Tywyn and Gwynedd as well as promoting the opportunities available in Wales. As well as this Mr Saunders has investments in multiple businesses in Cardiff, Welshpool, Newport and Tywyn.
Mr Saunders’ dedication to giving back to Wales is evident throughout his work. Halo-Foods Group employed 500 Welsh workers while in Peter’s ownership and in 1995 he was awarded with an OBE for his Services to Industry in Wales. In 2005 Peter Saunders established the ‘The Peter Saunders Trust’ to help encourage and develop achievement in the rural communities of Wales in which his original business operated.
The Community Foundation in Wales would like to congratulate Mr Saunders on his well deserved success. As a renowned Venture Philanthropist and businessman, Mr Saunders is an advocate of the philanthropic endeavours of the Community Foundation in Wales. His benevolent actions are exemplary and show the importance of constructive giving.
Mr Saunders commented on the wealth of opportunities available in Wales and how important philanthropists and entrepreneurs are to Wales’ development, "it reiterates how Wales is a place for business angels, VCs and others to invest in high growth start-ups and expanding businesses."
